Rethinking and Reimagining “Therapy” These Days

I have been rethinking and reimagining “therapy” these days. Not to worry, I am not throwing away all of the incredible teachings and underpinnings of the counseling profession! I am just considering more of what I feel that my clients and our world needs right now. We need to be encouraged to be true to ourselves.

There are ample ways to get information and to learn about the world and our place in it. What an incredible time that we live in! With such instant connection, however, we sometimes don’t realize that we are operating our lives from other people’s sense of the world instead of our own. We easily rush around to please others or to do what we think we “should” be doing. You are here for a reason. Be that person. Be yourself!

Each moment presents an opportunity to deepen your interaction with your own life. Smell and taste your food, look deeply into your child’s eyes, listen to the crunch of the ice beneath your boots. These simple moments give you a truer window into yourself than any other information that is readily available to you.

In essence, stop living anyone else’s ideas about your life and start living your life fully for yourself. It is your own life after all.
